155585 2003-06-27 05:57:00 Dear Bruvver Billy :x is taking a sabbatical this week and I have had the supreme honour of being asked to keep up the PF1 WFTWE tradition. :8}

Since most people are pretty familiar with Billy's formidable wit and way with words and knowing that there is no way that I could ever match his skills the most appropriate word for this week would have to be:

Kakorrhaphiophobia: an abnormal fear of failure. (noun)

Searching for a suitable wild and wonderful word to use was no easy task and my kakorrhaphiophobia has kept me awake half the night bathed in a cold sweat all week. I mean, imagine the verbal whipping I would get if I let him down by failing to come up with the goods!! :O

There would be very few people on this forum who have not secretly (or even publicly) suffered from chronic kakorrhaphiophobia at some point in their lives. No doubt there are plenty of PC tweakers and builders who have felt a wave swamp them prior to pressing the switch on their first self-assembled pride and joy like it did me, or, if that is far too tame, maybe when discovering that the flashing of their BIOS went horribly wrong.... :_|

There are currently a number of threads where certain people now have a nice official name for their affliction, but what about the closet kakorrhaphiophobics? It would be interesting to hear what has brought them out in a cold sweat. Are any of the the supremely self-confident, experienced PC veterans game enough to confess?? :p :D

"Anyone and everyone is welcome to post the gory details of their
past or current computer kakorrhaphiophobias - the more the merrier!

155586 2003-06-27 06:06:00 Wow. Umm. :D

I can't think of any times I've had kakorrhaphiophobia, but I'm sure I have. It just gets washed away when things finally work.

155589 2003-06-27 09:24:00 I think you've stolen the show with that word Susan B. I've just bitten my tongue trying to pronounce it (oh dang, I've failed :( )and I can't shake the image of that yellowish stuff that comes out of tiny wee people whenever I look at that word.

Chris did you ever try the HP recovery disk on Prat, or is it a dyed in the wool open source comp now? Did you notice that agent hinted at a small weakness to failure in that very same post?

Susan can you post a pronunciation please or is that up to us?

Cheers Murray :P muses on what Billy's reaction is going to be when he realises what Susan has done

155592 2003-06-27 10:57:00 Hey Susan

Your doing well, so well someone has to invent a new identity to throw pointless flak at you, just to try to pull you back down (to thier level).
