155775 2003-06-28 04:22:00 Hi, I have been trying to network 2 friends' computers, a windows XP laptop, and a windows 98SE desktop computer. The XP is using a Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC network card, and the 98SE is using a Realtek RTL8139/810X Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC network card. I have tried a stack of things, including making things shared, and running the XP network setup thing. BUT IT DOESN'T WORK! It keeps pooing itself, and it point blank refuses to see the other computer. PLEASE HELP! Wilky (776)
155776 2003-06-28 04:29:00 Which computer won't see the other? What method of physical connection are you using (direct cable, hub/switch)? What method of connection have you enabled in windows (TCP/IP, for eg).

155781 2003-06-28 05:21:00 Enable the guest account in Windows XP (crucial). If you don't want people to be logging into that pc with the guest account, you can change a few things in the Group Policy Editor. Specifically who is allowed to log in locally on the machine. Start -> Run -> Gpedit.msc

Disable any firewalls and wait a good 10mins and try again.

Definitely follow the FAQ for every detail in the Win98 pc
