156019 2003-06-29 10:01:00 could be the modem/modem drivers. I used to own a faulty one which sounds a lot like your one (Dynalink Internal - thats all i know)

also ISP, but usually they wouldn't have a service that bad. wht isp are u with?

i'd try a different broswer. Opera or Firebird - www.mozilla.org

156020 2003-06-29 10:04:00 a p2 233 is fast enough. not being a netscape user (older ver have always ended in disaster for me) it a bit hard for me to judge, however i would check what plugins you are useing. i recomend you upgrade or use a different browser. also install a firewall to check whats connecting out. i recommend outpost as you can see what address you are connected to. tweak'e (174)
156021 2003-06-29 10:59:00 Probably has a 33.6 internal modem in it - I used to have one in my 98 system - was good for modem games of Doom and Duke3d back in the day - OK for internet - there isn't too much difference to 56k - the new software (ie 6.0 update for Win98) was the processor killer :D HadO (796)
156022 2003-06-29 11:01:00 Pentium MMX 233MHz + 128MB EDO :D HadO (796)
156023 2003-06-29 11:25:00 56K internal modem but only delivers 33.6 i guess - will try that firewall (similar to zone alarm?) and will check the plugins (you mean there are unnecessary ones?)
what does that mean HadO (pentium MMX etc ?) - no comment re virus !!! - bt the way, thanks for all the input

Might be line noise or you may be using an incorrect driver or wrong setup.

156025 2003-07-30 09:24:00 Hi,
I had a similar problem where my 56kb modem was only working at 33kb.

The solution I found was to slow the PC down through the extra settings configuration. Yes it sounds silly but it worked as my modem is better able to cope with noise on the line.

A good site is:
www.modemsite.com

I typed in a maximum speed of 56kb and it now works at 50.1kb.

Its a bit like a beer drinking competition. If you can only drink at 5 glasses per hour, if a mate tries to pour more down your gullet, even less beer will go down as you splutter. This I believe is whats probably happening with your modem.

Cheers mate
