155828 2003-06-30 03:08:00 There will be no problem with changing the default ports for your webserver and ftp server, except you will need to tell IE to look at the seperate ports. As in:
http://mydomain.no-ip.com:8080 for webbased traffic, and
http://mydomain.no-ip.com:8021 for ftp traffic

Just be aware that some FTP browsers have a box to specify the FTP port, and others just require an URL. Your pretty smart though and should be able to figure this out.

Also, you will need to tell your server programs to use the different ports.

Just remember to tell the port fowarding software and firewall(s) to allow access from those ports.

155829 2003-06-30 06:00:00 I don't see any reason to use a port other than 80 for the HTTP server. Port scanners will find it open. Port scanners will find 8080 open too. :D The port has to be open. Otherwise, no-one can get at the server.

You are concerned about security, but choosing a non-standard port doesn't make it secure. Get a friend to try to break out of the web stuff which is the only content on the computer which should be accessible through the HTTP server. Then fix it, before making it accessible. The same with the FTP: if anyone can access anything outside the /public/ directory tree assigned to FTP, it doesn't matter what the port number is. :D
