156162 2003-06-29 11:24:00 Hi,

As many probably know, with Hotmail, an attachment can only be 1024K. Is there a way I can send a larger file to somebody via e-mail?

Thanks

Try zipping the file, or sending in throw your ISP e-mail account.

156164 2003-06-29 11:29:00 Email was never originally intended for sending large attachments. It is far better to use one of the file sending/sharing facilities in programs such as ICQ, Yahoo and MSN Messenger, Netmeeting etc. Terry Porritt (14)

156166 2003-06-29 12:55:00 Stu - I'm not sure what you mean with: or sending in throw your ISP e-mail account

Terry - The trouble with MSN is that I can only send a file when a contact is online, not when offline.

Claire - ranging from 3-4 mb mp3's to perhaps hundreds of mb video files, if that's possible, it'll probably take ages to send right?

Your best bet would be to get a Yahoo Account and then head off to http://briefcase.yahoo.com for your free 50MB of storage. Throw all your MP3's into a zip file and upload them to Yahoo. Make the folder available publically and get your friend to download them. From memory you can only upload 5MB at a time, so if your zip file exceeds 5MB, your options are to span it across several files, or upload the MP3's seperately...
Before doing this make sure you read the Yahoo Terms of Use and so forth.

Be aware however that sharing of MP3's and so forth is illegal.

156168 2003-06-29 20:45:00 On paper at least, it is possible to send a 10 or even 100mb file to another user using Outlook Express who is also getting there mail at a ISP address (pop mail) eg yourname@xtra.net.ph by breaking the attachment into smaller chunks and the other person once they get all the chunks at there end combines and decodes into one attachment.

To do it go to Outlook Express > Accounts > select your account and click Properties > Advanced > place a tick in the box labeled Sending and adjust the size of the send to whatever you want, default on this machine is 60kb but you can make that say 500kb as a example > Ok/Apply.

Create your message as normal and attach as normal and then send.

I have just tested it myself by sending myself a 12.1mb file which Outlook broke down into 69 messages of 256kb.

Of course make sure the person who is getting all these files has the same email client, eg Outlook Express and has agreed to getting x number of messages from you and yes, it will take time.

156169 2003-06-29 20:53:00 Since you are talking of a very large number of files and MB, the best way, apart from setting up an ftp server, would be to burn the files to CD and send by snail-mail :) Terry Porritt (14)
