156148 2003-06-29 09:58:00 I've reformatted my computer and reinstalled Windows98. I installed the Win98 Service Pack 1, but I am not sure that it has been properly installed. Is there some way that I can verify this? Denfinn (1658)

156150 2003-06-29 11:13:00 Service Pack 1 for Windows 98 includes:

Service Pack 2 for Internet Explorer 4

Support for modular Device Bay hardware

Additional support for modem drivers

Increased support for USB modems

Additional support for local area networks

Security Updates, such as the patch for the Outlook Express email file attachment bug

WebTV update, which includes support for Gemstar programming guide and new TV tuner chipsets

Networking enhancements that will enable dial-up connections over ATM networks

See if your Internet Explorer (IE, Help - About) gives a clue that its patched?

156151 2003-06-29 11:19:00 Are Microsoft still supporting Win98? When was the last patch released for it?

I thought they would have abandoned the OS ages ago - not that it was really bad - Win98SE was/is good for what it is.

156152 2003-06-29 11:19:00 And it can be found on the May 2001 NZ PC World CD along with other patches and updates.

If the following can be believed it looks as if the abandonment date has been postponed for a while:

Windows 98 spared from the MS guillotine for now Post #1 of 10

Microsoft Grants 2nd Stay Of Execution To Win98!

As recently as about two months ago, Microsoft pegged June 30 2003 as
the shutdown date for Win98 support. The basic plan was that, as of
that
date, two weeks from now, Win98 would no longer be patched, updated, or
bug-fixed.
But sometime in the last few weeks, Microsoft quietly extended the
date.
This will affect tens of millions of users worldwide!.........................

Cheers :)

156156 2003-06-29 12:13:00 I missed the most important part off my posting:

Now, the "'nonsupport" date for Win98 has been rolled back 6 months to
Jan 16 2004, and the new "end of life" date has been pushed back to Jan
16 2005.
