156120 2003-06-29 08:20:00 I happened to notice that my port settings are both set to low (receive and transmit), I am sure they were once set to high and maximum.

I note that to achieve higher settings a 16550 UART is required.

Is the UART located within my external Dynalink modem or is it a feature of the motherboard, which compared to the modem, is quite old.

How do I find out what UART my system has?

What is the advantage of having them at High/Max, do connections happen quicker?

156121 2003-06-29 08:25:00 The UART is on your motherboard, and unless you are running something of the age of a 286 it is likely to be a 16550 equivalent.

The UART speed is the speed that the modem and the motherboard communicate, and provided its at least the speed of the dial-up you will not see any slow-down.

Nah it's not 286 old, or even close, maybe 5 years, but I will not worry about it as it seems to be quick enough.

i would set it back to default.
