156085 2003-06-29 05:09:00 I have been following FAQ20 and the way I can get into Safe Mode is by tapping F8. I eventually get there as I did this morning but it took seven tries. I tap F8 - it says in FAQ20 to do this after BIOS loads - which is presumably near the start. Maybe I start tapping too early, but does it make a difference ? Is it normal to have so many tries to get into safe mode. The time I did it before this morning's exercise I got in on the fourth try.

156086 2003-06-29 05:17:00 Hitting F5 just before the Windows logo screen appears is a faster option
Hold the F5 key down till you hear a couple of clicky noises then release it.
I'm assuming you are running 95/ME

Sorry, should have taken more notice.
The above will work fine.

156088 2003-06-29 05:52:00 Hi Misty

Another sure fire way of getting into Safe Mode without testing your reflex skills is to select a Startup Menu to display automatically when you boot your machine. To do this:

Start > Run > type msconfig then OK. On the General Tab click the Advanced button. Then put a tick beside Enable Startup Menu. Click OK and OK again.

When you reboot your PC a menu will automatically appear which will allow you to choose Safe Mode as an option. To stop this menu appearing each time you bootup, just do the above again and remove the tick from that option in msconfig.

156092 2005-01-04 06:18:00 I have used Jen's method of getting safe mode and it works perfectly - though slightly slow. Should have looked more closely at Peter's suggestion too. Holding down on "Control" whilst booting also works in ME !!
