156241 2003-06-29 22:55:00 We have a problem with our P.233 computer which runs Win 98se and has a 17" Compaq Monitor, 90% of the time when we start the computer we have to adjust the screen as the task bar dissappears out of sight.
Hope someone has a suggestion

156242 2003-06-29 23:11:00 It sounds like the EHT (Extra High Tension) supply on the monitor is sagging.
The EHT normally runs at about 23,000 volts, and accellerates the electron beam to the monitor face.
If it gets low, the beam spends longer in the deflection field and the result is an "overscanned" picture, which shows up as an enlarged (and slightly duller) picture.

In the above case the picture should be too wide as well as too high, does this fit the symptoms?

Monitors are quite cheap, and its unlikely to be worth repairing one suffering from this

156243 2003-06-29 23:20:00 If you're in Auckland, try taking a look in the phone book/s for "Phillips Monitor Repairs" or something. Not as in the brandname "Philips".

They repaired the fault in my monitor (the transistor for green had blown or something), at a reasonable price I believe, and couriered it back very cheaply (something less than $10, maybe even $5 if I recall correctly).

No the picture is not enlarged if anything a little smaller than it used to be and its as if it has slipped a bit

Hi Agent, can you remember whether it's Yellow pages or White pages?
Their repair charges sound great.

156247 2003-06-30 04:33:00 Also sometimes monitors take a while to "warm up". Does it correct itself after a while? rsnic (3780)
156248 2003-07-04 01:12:00 Thank you for your suggestions, have just realised what the problem was today. The taskbar just had to be moves up the screen a bit, it had somehow been moved down too low probably with a slip on the mouse at some stage. Very pleased to say that the monitor is ok !!!
