| 156191 | 2003-06-30 00:09:00 | Yes Stu - I would download and install and then next time I got the automatic update list it would be there again. Is it something I need? If not how do I stop it appearing on the download list?? | Ladybug (3129) | ||

| 156193 | 2003-06-30 02:50:00 | Have a look at support.microsoft.com This will give you some clues as to purpose of update in your operating system. Suggest uninstal any reference to it that you can find then download a new copy from the above site. It maybe that you keep using the same corrupted download which is sitting in your server |

| 156194 | 2003-07-01 01:23:00 | Hi Frank - thank you for that link. I did a search and found there was some trace of this already. How do I uninstall whats there or do I just download and it will overwrite it?? Also can you tell me what this is? Do I really need it?? I don't understand a lot of the computer talk as I'm fairly new to all this and possibly a bit cautious. Thanks Ladybug |

| 156197 | 2003-07-01 06:30:00 | Hi Ladybug - endless looping of MS updates are not that uncommon. You can see the posts made at Microsoft Newsgroups Windows Update (communities.microsoft.com) on the same topic. There have been a few recent posts there about update 814033. This is what they are being told by the Microsoft experts to try initially: Quote: For WinXP, renaming or deleting the Catroot2 folder may solve the problem. Go to support.microsoft.com Follow the steps 6 to 8 in the Resolution section of above link (do a reboot first so the computer is "fresh" before you do the steps). Then try to install the update again. The link above is for SP1, but the Catroot2 problem is now also surfacing in recommended/critical updates and not only for the SP1 upgrade. If that doesn't help, try this: Check your "windows update.log" file for specific error code (the log file is in your windows folder) and take look at this Web page: Windows Update Troubleshooter v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com end Quote ================================================== === Steps from MS Knowledge Base Article 326815 6 Click Start, and then click Run. 7 In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK. 8 At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each line: net stop cryptsvc ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2 net start cryptsvc Type exit to close the command prompt ================================================== === A few people has posted back to say that had fixed their problem, so you may want to try that. NOTE: I also have a re-occurring update (different update number) so I tried this myself last night. It didn't fix my update loop but may work for you. If not, try having a search through the newsgroup or make a post there yourself. PS* Whilst previewing this I noticed some weird formatting tags and extra spaces that cannot be seen out the of preview mode .... here's hoping it sorts itself out .. |
