| 1341511 | 2013-05-16 00:01:00 | When I try to install the My Tomtom program, I get an error message "My Tom tom cannot use the web connector port 4000. Please select another port via settings" and gives me the option to enter another port number in the box. Can anyone suggest a port number I should use? |

Connect it directly to a usb port. Are any AV / firewall programs installed besides the windows one/s? Some people have managed to get it to work by rebooting as well Looks like someone fixed the prob by doing this There was something else I did apart from rebooting, I went into tools ,internet options, security, trusted sites, and added the tom tom website to my trusted sites........worked for me, no more port 4000 problems I would also disable protected mode in IE (if you use it / and if its ticked). Under tools / internet options / security |

| 1341513 | 2013-05-16 00:37:00 | Thanks Speedy, port 4000 now seems to be working after I unplugged the device and then plugged in again. Next problem is in trying to enter the lifetime maps activation code. The site correctly identifies my device, says 'continue' then tells me I need to download My TomTom, which is in fact already installed and running. I can't get past this window to the activation input. In addition the site says I have 5 updates available, the GPS says 'Checking for Updates' but nothing downloads. I have run out of ideas after uninstalling everything and trying again from scratch. |

| 1341515 | 2013-05-16 00:50:00 | You may have to ring them to activate it. (discussions.tomtom.com). You may have to provide proof of purchase as well Did you do this? (au.support.tomtom.com) Are you on Facebook? You could ask there |

It certainly seems like I am not the only person to have troubles with TomTom. Thanks for your suggestions. | Richard (739) | ||

| 1341518 | 2013-05-16 01:45:00 | Hope your TomTom lasts longer than mine. It worked when i first got it but after the first update about a month ago it can't find any satellites. Have trolled thru the Tomtom support forums and there are tons of people with the same problem. As this didn't cost me anything I just may bin it after I call their tech support number and have a talk to them.. | paulw (1826) | ||
| 1341519 | 2013-05-18 09:21:00 | I had endless troubles with My TomTom but their helpline was very good. You have to have Java and Flash operating or it won't work. I told them that I had disabled Java because of all the warnings about its insecure nature, but it has to be running. I got the thing working by re-installing Java and Adobe Flash Player, but registered a formal complaint with them about the shonky nature of their software having to rely on insecure and dangerous third party crap. It won't make a blind bit of difference but it made me feel better at the time. I told them I would recommend that no-one buy TomTom products until they develop safe reliable software that is stand alone. My two bobs worth... BTW the port connector thing is a bit of a red herring. Make sure all the required software is installed, and reboot. Then connect your device and it should work. |

| 1341520 | 2013-05-19 23:02:00 | Richard, did you get this thing fixed? There is a new version of the NZ map out (I was notified yesterday) which you should be eligible for, and the support application has also been updated. If you can get MyTomTom connected to your device, it should take you through the update to the map, and to the new version of the support application. I have no idea what the update does, but with any good luck and a following wind it may have sorted out these problems. | John H (8) | ||
