1340778 2013-05-11 23:33:00 My current PC has become slow starting, slow to load web browser, email and other programmes, and is continuously locking up.

I'm thinking that it is time for an upgrade.

I don't play games on my PC but it must have sufficient power and speed to enable me to edit/process digital photographs and record/edit TV recordings.

What sort ot motherboard/processor should I be looking at buying.

Hopefully I can re-use the DVD burners and the TV capture card that I presently have installed, but replacing them will not be the end of the world.

All comments/suggestions will be appreciated.

You'll want to invest heavily in your graphics card if you are going to be doing video editing, it's potentially more taxing on a PC than gaming!

Is there any particular software you use when editing videos? Some programs work better with NVidia cards (CUDA) and some with OpenCL (AMD cards).

At this stage, I am really interested in what type of MB and processor I should be considering purchasing :)

I still have 200+ VHS tapes that I need to convert to DVD.

1340782 2013-05-12 00:30:00 Why don't you save your data, and reinstall Windows? Sounds like your present computer was doing what you needed before the slowdown. PPp (9511)
1340783 2013-05-12 00:54:00 That simple? :( Zippity (58)
1340784 2013-05-12 01:37:00 That simple? :( If the computer was ok but has now slowed down, then it can be suffering from windows bloat.

Over a period of time files and programs get corrupted, loads of junk builds up etc and things get slower and slower. By simply saving all your data as PPp mentioned, reinstalling windows, programs and putting back your data it will be like new again.

I've done it countless times to customers computers, they often think there has been upgrades to the hardware -- NOPE - just reinstall it from fresh ;)

The exception to this is when there is a hardware problem.

One item that can slow it down is a slowly failing hard Drive ( bad sectors) . A simple check is to download diskinfo Portable Direct Link to download (sourceforge.jp 2.zip) simply unzip the contents, and run it. It will tell you the state of the Hard Drive ( reads the Drives SMART) If its good then all's well.

My 3 HDDs are fine :)

How do I check memory? Got a programme that will do that?
