1316855 2012-12-06 18:30:00 Hi guys

My mum just got a form to fill in for her to sell her Trustpower bonds.

I think it is from Stock & Share Trading Company.

The offer is 80 cents per bond and they are on the NZX at $1.06.

They are due in 2014.

I think this is what they call a low ball share offer.

They may it look very official and koscher.

Anyone else had one ?

1316856 2012-12-06 22:59:00 We get those low ball offers fairly often, Digby.

Technically, they are not breaking any rules, of which I am aware. No doubt they hope someone may not understand the real value of their shares or need a bit of cash without having to bother going through share brokers.

You can only make sure that those whom you care about are well aware of the situation.

1316857 2012-12-06 23:21:00 " Ned Kelly no longer wears body armour and carries a rifle. His latest personification, Adelaide lawyer John William Armour, simply posts loads of letters to Kiwis every year offering to pay us a fraction of what our shares and bonds are worth.

While this is not illegal, it is unscrupulous. His success depends on taking advantage of widows, beneficiaries and others who lack financial knowledge: unworldly innocents who accept at face value his misleading official-looking offers for their shares and bonds. " www.stuff.co.nz

But he/they are scumbags.

My mum is in her mid eighties and could easily have signed it, as it looks like an official from.

I have reported it to the FMA.

1316861 2012-12-07 01:59:00 The FMA emailed back that it is a scam.
But they don't seem to have updated their scam list !
