1316310 2012-12-04 21:27:00 There is a time and place for giving people the bash and that was one of them. If the courts did their job properly and sentencing reflects the maximum sentence for the crime and the extent of the crime it would be ok. But they don't so citizens have to pick up the slack.
If judges did their job properly this wouldnt be necessary.

1316311 2012-12-05 01:53:00 ....if you feel strongly that that doesn't' work either do something about it or stop your whingeing. Taking the law into your own hands I's not an option, changing the law is.

Yeah RIGHT!!!

Come out of dream world :(

1316312 2012-12-05 02:22:00 We do hear that , anecdoatally, and years ago it was probably true.

But is it really true nowadays ?

If they separate them, there there is not much chance of anything happening. Its true alright. Not to sure exactly how it goes these days, but a few years back when I was doing aeromodelling one of he guys from the local prision Trentham was allowed to come out on sundays to the field. He was in for some minor crime ( never did find out what) but he would often make a comment if some one came in and was a child abuser, as many of them had kids themselves. as he would put it, they would be taken care of , some of the floors can get rather slippery in the right circumstances ;)

1316313 2012-12-05 02:27:00 Sure child abusers are scum and deserve to be treated harshly. But that doesn't make it ok for people to just take it upon themselves to do the punishing, that's what the law system is for.
Otherwise we may as well just go back to lynchmobs and mob rule and forget about having a legal system and a police force. No system is perfect, but ignoring it and doing things your way in no way helps the situation.

If the guy who did the attacking had some personal suffering of himself or a loved one at the hands of this deviant or another like him perhaps we can sympathise with his reasons and go easy on him but if he was just acting out of hate or anger he has issues of his own that need dealing with.

Sorry Digby but to me saying the guy deserves a medal is just completely wrong. Maybe we understand why he did it, and maybe we would like to do it ourselves, but neither makes it right or medal worthy to take the law into your own hands.
I'm not a believer in encouraging anyone to attack someone else for any reason. The only exception I'd make to that is when defending yourself or someone else from an attack.
Well said.
