Go to the start/tiles screen, type in "Restore" ( without the "" ) from the results on the right under Settings results click on create a restore point - make a restore point. Then download and run revo uninstaller portable portableapps.com portable (portableapps.com) run it ( it will create a folder in the location of the download- open that click the exe file) and select VLC, select the advanced mode, run it, remove all the options it shows. VLC is now gone. Should something go wrong ( but shouldn't unless theres another problem with the laptop) then run system restore and put it all back. Windows 8 By default wont play DVD's you have to have a third party player. As mentioned before ( and linked in your link) classic player works nice and has more controls/functions than VLC. |

| 1340978 | 2013-05-14 01:39:00 | Thankyou all for comments. For 'wainuitech', my version says 2.0.6 (no mention of win 32 or whatever). I'll certainly follow your recommendations re restore point, uninstall and new install. For 'zqwerty', I've run VLC on my old Toshiba laptop (Vista) for a long time, with never a problem; and I understand it is one of the most versatile players around. My inclination is to stay with what I know, if possible. It may be tomorrow before I can get at it again. |

| 1340979 | 2013-05-14 02:11:00 | Yes the old version were ok but the newer ones are large downloads (30meg plus) and slow to start, try my recommendation you'll never use VLC again. | zqwerty (97) | ||

Slow to start...? Zq have you made sure you've unticked the 'check for media info on file open' option? And it's 22.5MB, not 30. ;) |

| 1340981 | 2013-05-15 00:25:00 | After creating a restore point I managed to uninstall VLC Media Player - though the screens/processes didn't quite match wainuitech's description (which made me very nervous. I wished I'd made a video of the whole process [-"If wishes were horses..........."!]). Anyway, I appear to have got there in the end - but definitely bad for the blood pressure! The money seems to be on"Media Player Classic", so I'll probably give it a try. Hopefully, I could always revert to the restore point I created. Thanks for all the input........ (though I'd still like to know why VLC didn't play ball) |

(though I'd still like to know why VLC didn't play ball) Errrrr yeah the instructions are correct, Go to the start/tiles screen, type in "Restore" ( without the "" ) from the results on the right under Settings results click on create a restore point - make a restore point. Once the restore box opens you click on Create which makes a restore point. ( of course you have to fill in your own details) The restore point is ONLY in case the bad install of VLC did something wrong while uninstalling. You could then use that to fix any start up problems which generally wouldn't happen, but a bad install can do some weird things. The VLC player download I used is Direct download page (get.videolan.org) :) |
