1316747 2012-12-06 01:45:00 Horizontal rain is a good sign alright

Power was out here at the office (Henderson) and the surrounding buildings for an hour 12.15 - 1 pm... Plenty of thunder and lightning too...

I have been at Fred Taylor drive old sh16 never seen a thing
They must be pretty localised

It was around SH18 so the other side of Hobsonville ;)

1316752 2012-12-06 02:19:00 We just got a lot of rain, and brief swirling winds with abundant thunder. About 1 1/2 k east of Hobsonville, or 1 1/2 k west of the last tornado a few months ago. Pretty lucky really. R2x1 (4628)
1316753 2012-12-06 02:29:00 Gentle breeze in Invercargill, cloudy but no rain today. Bobh (5192)

I think you'll find pctek didn't realise the severity of the wind in Hobsonville before posting this thread . . .

@ R2x1 - Yeah I was just talking to my work mate about that last one we had . . .

Also apparently the Tui billboard which is often found motorway-side by Avondale has blown onto the motorway!? - Insert obvious punchline here . . . But true story . . .

1316755 2012-12-06 02:42:00 That stuff link, love the guy at 1:20 on the video haha, just chilling with no shirt. Classic.

That being said, that's the only vaguely funny thing about this. From the one or two vids I have seen it looked pretty powerful. Lucky more people weren't killed.
