| 1316607 | 2012-12-05 20:15:00 | Do private companies allow "private calls" to be made on company cell phones ? You may have meant this faecetiously, but yes, in many cases. In our case, for example, we make all calls on the phone, and then mark in a record which ones are private and which ones are business. We pay for the private calls, but not for business calls. |

Thanks, I asked it seriously So your company makes you pay for private calls. Is that the common practice? Aside from that they are now saying that Brendan Horan made the calls to the TAB on their 0800 number, so if that was the case, it was not costing us the tax payer anything. But it may still indicate that he has a gambling problem. |

If I was a business journo, I might be able to say, but I have no idea. Maybe some other folk will chip in. Aside from that they are now saying that Brendan Horan made the calls to the TAB on their 0800 number, so if that was the case, it was not costing us the tax payer anything. But it may still indicate that he has a gambling problem. I'd say it comes down to any code of conduct or ethical guidelines the party bound him by. And if, as someone said above, he was asked for a "please explain" and didn't provide one, then it sounds appropriate to expel him. Harsh, yes, but accountability is the cornerstone of credibility for any politician. To party and to representatives. |

| 1316610 | 2012-12-05 20:31:00 | There is a difference between a company phone and a tax payer provided phone. Company phone bills are tax deductible and it would be a miserable company that wouldn't let its staff use its mobile phone for a reasonable amount of private calls. It would mean you would have to carry 2 phones. Tax payer phone a whole different ball game it should be for government use only because we taxpayers are paying for it.
