156679 2003-07-01 09:23:00 Hi there, when I click on "File" in Word, at the bottom appears names of documents I have long deleted..can anyone tell me how to delete these ?
The normal delete button dosen't work with these, and I have definitely deleted them out of my documents as they are confidential. Help!!!

156682 2003-07-01 09:37:00 I think there is an entry in the Options section (Tools -> Options) somewhere to change the number of filenames kept there or disable the feature.

The feature is there because many people find it handy to have a list of the last files they worked on when they are doing work - but just as many probably find it a security issue, as you do.

If there is no option in the Options section of Word (I would check myself, but don't have Office installed), you might be able to browse the registry and manually delete the entries, as it is likely that they are stored there.

156684 2003-07-01 11:51:00 As far as the security went no one would have been able to open those files within Word but it might have given someone the file name to try and undelete the file. Also you say you deleted the file but did you just do it to the Recycle Bin. If so make sure you also empty the recycle bin. If you want to permantly delete a file without it going to the bin hold down the Shift key when you hit delete. You can also get software that will securely wipe a file so that it can never be recovered. mikebartnz (21)

Thanks for posting this query amazon and thanks to those who replied. I too found that link from Jen C really helpful and easy to follow. Has solved my problem too. Still getting my head round MS Word so these helpful hints to sort out the jigsaw puzzle are really good.

Thanks again. Have a good day
