| 156580 | 2003-07-01 07:16:00 | Just want to clarify here that I was putting the brakes on other people thinking that the BIOS needed flashing, in case Beetle thinks that I inferred that she said or implied that it did. Beetle never said anything about flashing the BIOS. It is easy for us to make assumptions with limited information but I couldn't see any point in letting everyone get carried away and thus wasting their time following a red herring when it was a much more simple issue than it appeared. :-) |

Bios Simplified (computer.howstuffworks.com) Choose the printable version. You might be able to fit the reading in between all those host duties - been there, done that. I enjoy your postings. |

It seems I should have worded my initial reply slightly different, Rather then stating "they are" maybe i should have said "it looks to me like". I’m still wondering why they would need mainboard identification to do a disk check, or why they would refer to bios start up settings when the pc company supplies recovery discs. |

| 156585 | 2003-07-01 12:36:00 | Hey Metla, yeah, you do sort of keep things a bit lively around here, don't you? :p :D The document Beetle got from the PC Coy gives instructions on how to do a disk check to determine any problems with it but the bulk of it contains instructions on how to make the computer boot from the recovery CD. That is where the BIOS startup settings come in and there are explanations and screenshots for two mobos (they obviously aren't sure which one Beetle's PC has got :D). Personally I would have thought the computer was already set to boot from the CD but that is something Beetle is going to find out first before digging into the BIOS. |

| 156589 | 2003-07-02 04:02:00 | ok i have done a little test that susan b set me, she said put recovery disk in and then restart the computer and wait for it to ask if i want to boot off cd rom..... did that and it did not ask......... but it always on start up first screen say hit del key to ...start up sequence or what ever (cant remember wording) so what does this tell me? it wont work or i need to change registry or something? or do i need to hit del to start this sequence for it to check and ask ? and dont panic this is just questions i am not fiddling with the puter..... :D beetle |
