156644 2003-07-01 06:47:00 just recently i am having trouble connecting at good speed to Xtra
normally it goes at 48-52kbits..
but since last week sometimes it connects at 20-30kbits
then i need to reconnect then it goes back to around 50

could it be my modem or is Xtra loosing it's service...

156645 2003-07-01 10:27:00 heni. I also have the same problem & resolve it the same way. Have seen on this Forum that it may be Telecom giving you a "Shared Line" or something. I am sure someone could give a better/fuller explanation. PJ Poppa John (284)
156646 2003-07-01 10:44:00 You could try changing the phone number to 08 7303032. Used to work for me sometimes. Icarus (3936)

If it was a 0+2 (shared line digitally split) then disconnecting and reconnecting would not change the connect speed. It waould always be low. Possibly just a marginal situation with something loading the line at your end (a phone fax or answer machine) or an intermittently noisy line.

156648 2003-07-01 13:12:00 Have you recently hooked up with Digital Sky? (maybe in preparation for World Cup) Unplug decoder from phone line if so.

156649 2003-07-01 19:01:00 A word of warning:

By all means unplug the telephone line from your Sky decoder, I do .......I don't know if it will help with the slow connection problem or not....

but, take care if you want to book any box office movies etc. through the remote, to reconnect the decoder phone line overnight....it "phones home" in the middle of the night to complete the booking/billing process.

156650 2003-07-01 20:56:00 what's the difference of this number from 08 7303030? heni72847 (1166)
156651 2003-07-01 23:37:00 actually nothing now.It used to go to a different bank of modems, for people that had modems that wouldn't talk to the standard ones properly, but it just goes to the same place now.

156652 2003-07-03 10:53:00 Contact Telecom Faults, on "120" and get them to a Line Test for Data Integrity, have them e-mail or fax you the results and then contact the Xtra help desk. They may be able to assist, but they will need to know the results of the Data Integrity test sinndisco (4059)
