2003-07-01 05:14:00 | I am using Windows 98 SE on AMD K6(450) and have had very few problems over the last twelve months until now! My Recycle Bin seems frozen and shows me nothing at all. By a simple test using doc. files from Word, I can delete unwanted files but they do not appear in the Recycle Bin which only stays impassive! My Computer appears virus free but the symptoms almost seem that it's caught something odd. Everything else works normally.. Would appreciate any suggestions.

2003-07-01 05:23:00 | I assume you have Norton's installed. This replaces it with it's own one. Like most of their progs, some are more trouble than they are worth. My tuppence worth. Bye

2003-07-01 06:28:00 | Have done as suggested. There was no "tick" in the box. Also tried altering the amount space allocated to the Recycle Bin but made no difference. Thanks anyway... | zakk (2272) | |

First I created a Win98 boot disk & then I extracted the file DELTREE.EXE from the Win98 Cd & put it on my Boot disk. Then I started the PC with a win98 boot disk & once I got to an A:\ prompt I changed over to C:\ & Typed DIR/A (The /A will allow you to see hidden system files. Thanks go to Terry Porritt for that Tip.) Once I was able to see the recycle directory I was able to have a look in the Recycle bin In this case there was a lot of files & folders as this problem had been going on for some time. I switched back to an A:\ prompt. To Delete the Recycle bin & all its files I Typed DELTREE C:\RECYCLED & pressed enter. It actually took about 5mins for the recycle bin & its contents to dissapear. Windows will automaticly rebuild the Recycle bin when it starts. Hope this is helpful & if there is any probs feel free to post again Cheers Steve |

2003-07-01 09:23:00 | Thanks to both you and RSNIC for the suggestion. I have just finished methodically carrying out the steps in your detailed technique. Once I reached the final stage (ie DELTREE C:\RECYCLED & pressed enter) it only took about a minute to do it's job..but..after shutting down and re-starting from scratch, nothing changed in the visible Recycle Bin! It still remains as dead-wood with no sign of life. Even when unwanted files are put over it (and they are gobbled up!) there is no way that I get any other feed-back from it! Thanks again for the help todate.. Maybe I will have to reformat my Hard Drive!
