156437 2003-06-30 10:48:00 I was wondering if anyone could give me some links to some places in New Zealand which build PC's for consumers.

I don't have a big budget, so cheap and reliable are key.

I am in the Dunedin area, so if anyone else from Dunedin knows anywhere local, that would be even better.

Thanks in advance for you help.

156438 2003-06-30 10:59:00 Anything special that you are after?

If it's an inexpensive computer, wharehouse stationary have the $1300ish compaq deal at the moment. Or did you want to have a go putting it together yourself?

156439 2003-06-30 11:00:00 Have a look at some of the links given here at Pricespy Sellers (www.pricespy.co.nz) and check out the Dunedin based ones. Jen C (20)
156440 2003-06-30 11:02:00 PriceSpy (www.pricespy.co.nz/) has a good data base of online shops. Click on a product or the shop on the same row will take you into the list. It gives location and a link to the online store. Most will deliver (if not free) anywhere in NZ. Some have online builders that let you mix and match components and total up the cost, print it out so you can keep track of the various options and to compare with others offerings. Price isn't everything of course, service and locality will help.

156441 2003-06-30 11:12:00 Oh dear....

I would suggest to you that the words "Cheap" and "Reliable" are mutually exclusive in the same sentence.

I could build you a "Cheap" computer but I won't as it wouldn't be "Reliable".

I could build you a "Reliable" computer but it won't be cheap!!!

You can't have it both ways in my humble opinion.

I have built computers which have been sent to people as far South as Invercargill and as far North as Auckland.

My suggestion to you at this point is to post again on this forum and tell people here what sort of APPLICATIONS you want to run. There is a big difference between running Paint out of Windows 3.11 and Adobe Photshop 7 or 8.

What Operating System are you planning to run?

What *IS* your budget anyway.

If you can't build your own computer I further suggest that you find a local computer shop near where you are. You go in and talk to them. If you buy one from them then make sure they have been in business for more than a couple of years at least. Local is good as you can always kick them in the kneecaps if you aren't happy.

I hope this helps.
