| 156744 | 2003-07-01 11:20:00 | For those that wish to try other operating systems other than the one they are comfortable with..... (Whatever that is) You might like to try MY solution. You can (of course) dual boot off one hard drive if you want to and I have done this. I have now done things differently. I bought a removable Hard drive enclosure which fits in a 5 1/4 drive bay. My main drive (120 Gig seagate) fits in there. This drive runs WinXP and the three partitions are formatted as NTFS. The storage drive which is another of the same stays in the computer in a 3 1/2 bay and is formatted as FAT32 so I have access under WinXP or Linux etc to the storage. I have another hard disk in a tray which fits in the enclosure and can install any O/S I want on that one. Most of the time I use WinXP for the real world applications I run. If I want to test Operating Systems I can remove my normal boot drive and replace it with the other drive in the tray. No DUAL boot. Just boot off one drive or the other. Does this make sense? |

I have both primary and secondary HDD in removeable caddies on the main PC, and swap out the secondary one frequently (I have 6 spares used for daily backups) and keep them in a fireproof safe. (business requires it) On the other PC's only the secondary drive is removeable. With the cost of a HDD so low now, its a good option for daily backups as well as for dual booting. |
