156849 2003-07-02 04:27:00 Have just revived a old MGA model CM6P 14 inch SVGA rating100-240v
Monitor, to use on a P100 pent machine. It works fine, except that I can't find the control to expand the horizontal size. It has a blank ½ inch or so gap either side of the screen which I would like to fill.

Not quite sure if the gaps were always there when I bought it a few years back.

It has 3 controls at the front, On/Off button, Brightness and another button which alters the density? and brightness.

There are 3 controls at the rear marked, V-Size, H-Phase and V-Cent, but nothing at all for Horizontal Size.

Have tried it on other computers with other video cards, with the same results, the settings are 640 by 480 Pixels. Can't think of any more info that might be helpful.

Does anybody remember these old monitors?, and remember how the Horizontal size was adjusted? Perhaps they were made not to be adjusted???

Thanking you all in anticipation........Patt

156850 2003-07-02 04:37:00 Yes used to have one.
The horizontal width adjustment was on the PC board, one of about 10 unmarked pre-set adjustments.
Very difficult to adjust as you need the monitor operating while gutted, which means you take your life in your hands (23,000 volts on the CRT)

Also mine would trip the power supply when trying to attain a full scan.
Not the "best in show" I am afraid.
Mine died years ago.

156851 2003-07-02 04:38:00 stick your fingers under the front of the monitor, some have 3 recessed dials there.... metla (154)

156853 2003-07-02 04:51:00 Some of those early monitors were not full scan anyway. Also beware of raising the refresh rate on them, they take out the horiz drive transistor. If it hasn;t got a horiz adjust on the outside, then I would live with it. Forcing it to the outside can shorten it's life, if it wasn't designed for it. Pheonix (280)
156854 2003-07-02 23:24:00 Thank you Godfather, Melta, and Pheonix for your promp reply's.

As sugested, the best solution would be to live with a smaller screen,

so once again , thanks a lot...........Patt
