156806 2003-07-02 03:13:00 I have windows Me on a HP6726 running a Sony DSC-P20 camera. After 6 months successful operation, the computer now will not recognise the camera. Tried reloading the drivers, the camera doesnt appear in the hardware list and the computer does nothing when it is plugged in. The USB port operates fine with our cam.
Where to now?

156807 2003-07-02 08:53:00 would this have something to do with ur restore point problem? well go to control panel, in my computer, and click on Add hardware. The computer should scan the ports for new hardware and should list them down. Now if it doesnt u should click on "manually select device" and see if it is listed there. If it isnt then go to system and click on the Hardware tab, and then on Device Manager. Now wot port os the camera plaugged into? depending on wot port just look around. If u cant find it listed but know which port it is in, then right click on that port and click on "Scan For Hardware Changes" with ur camera plugged in and turned on. This should detect it and should opt u to install the necesarry drivers.

cheers,

156809 2003-07-02 09:27:00 As far as I know, Windows ME (like Win2k, XP and Linux kernels 2.4) does not require a driver for a USB camera. The memory card is detected as a block USB device which will work without a driver.

If this is true, then it looks like a hardware problem of some kind. If the port goes with another camear, then maybe the camera in question is faulty. Does it work on another PC?
