| 157322 | 2003-07-04 01:39:00 | I want to upgrade my computer from an old slug of a 133mhz, and double my memory to 128mb, i have some questions that needs answer. First: Would a new CPU fit in an old 133mhz notherboard? 2nd: How much do new CPU's cost?what about second hand ones? 3rd: Would a new motherboard fit in a compaq deskpro computer? 4th: How much is a new motherboard? Second hand? 5th: Would a new motherboard increase my computers speed by much? 6th: How much is 128mb of RAM cost? 7th: Does all RAM work on all new motherboards? 8th and last: Would it work on my old motherboard? |

You need to buy a new computer, and maybe keep the old one to play with. Compaqs, old in particular, are not upgradeable. 'What you see is what you get'. |

I reccomend a new cheap case($50), asus nforce1 motherboard($140), duron ($70)cpu, and some ram.($100) for $350 you'll have a 1.3ghz pc with 512mb of ram, and geforce2 level graphics. buying new gear to suit your current motherboard is a waste of money. |

Just spent 300 = gst on a new pentium chip... best thing i ever did... but now my puter is almost finished... im going to build the misses one... Ruff pricing of a athlon xp with 40 gigs and 256 megs came to around $675 = monitor... Which makes a quit respectable puter... I dont see why there are charging 2 grand ish for a simmerlar system... So what im saying is... if you confident.... build it you self... The problem with upgrading an old system... is all the parts are out of date... |
