I just bought a second hand laptop, with Win XP Home Edition.
as you know, when you go to Control Panel/ System/General. It appears the previous owner.

Can I ask you guys to show me how to change his name to my name?

157291 2003-07-04 13:04:00 Start > Run > type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) click ok, the Registry Editor will open up.
Navigate you way to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion"
Double click on the Value Names: "RegisteredOwner" & "RegisteredOrganization" & change the value data to whatever you want.
Reboot.

Would this count as a "change" in the XP registration/activation/MS_stuff_the_customers_ivation system? Don't MS want successive owners to each pay them money? I'd be surprised if they didn't. ;-)

(in my adventures with regedit I always use the Edit/Search menu item. I don't like "navigating Microsoft's user-hostile tree structure. :D ) S_B has given you the names ... you'll find it easy to search for "Registered".
