157159 2003-07-03 05:12:00 Hi all,
On bootup, I now get a msg saying "Unable to initialise virus scanning engine". (Win.'98, Zone Alarm 2.6.362)
I believe this started when, one day, I was doing my "Live Update" but when it came to install it, I had no place on my C: drive and that must've corrupted something. I've never had a problem before with NAV or any of the above apps. I mentioned about.
I completely uninstalled NAV4.0 and reinstalled it like originally suggested but still cannot get it to work. Even the "auto-protect" is disabled ! I then uninstalled it and installed NAV2002, but still no luck. I've even used Norton Cleansweep and got rid of registry entried, orphan files etc. and am now at my wits end, as you can't afford to not have an anti-virus program these days !
Any assistance will be GREATLY appreciated !
Regards,
Amit

157160 2003-07-03 05:19:00 Check out Symantec's website for help as they have answers for most things, although sometimes they can be hard to find.
Try uninstalling all again, and also uninstall Liveupdate and Live reg in the control panel, and search your C: for nortons and Symantec and delete all files found as there are a few hidden ones that can be hard to find, also search the registry and do the same.

157161 2003-07-03 06:27:00 Hi Turtle,
Thanks for your post - it worked ! I did uninstall NAV before, but this uninstalled LiveUpdate and LiveReg as well. I then ran a search and realised that there was another folder under C:/Program Files/Common Files/Symantec Shared that had some stuff in there too, so I deleted that whole folder. I dont understand why they can't put everything in once place as I had previously deleted the NAV and the Symantec folders completely as well !!
So yeah - that's a huge relief and thanks a tonne for your quick response!
Regards,
Amit
