| 157119 | 2003-07-03 00:51:00 | Using Sandar s/w i got a message about RAM that large memory modules (256MB or greater) should be Registered/Buffered. What does Registered/Bufferred mean? Is it possible and if so, how to R/B the exisitng RAM? RAM on my computer is 256. |

| 157120 | 2003-07-03 05:57:00 | AFAIK Registered/Buffered RAM is made different to normal ram. my understanding is the Registered/Buffered RAM has a Register/Buffer chip on it. the motherboard chipset writes/reads to this instead of directly to the ram modules. the 2 main times a registered ram is used is when a manafacture uses smaller cheaper ram modules to make up a stick or when you are useing ram sticks that are larger than the mobo can normally handle. for eg some motherboards will max out at 2 gig but you can go to 3 gig if you use registered ram. and no you can't turn unregistered ram into registered ram. |
