157085 2003-07-03 00:21:00 Pal of mine started using a new email facility I forget what it was called but the same thing happened. The prog was still in beta testing and he was testing it for a pal of his. Since been fixed, but yes you need to provide more info. mark c (247)
157086 2003-07-03 00:56:00 Some links, particularly of a promotional nature - the kind typically sent with emails - just move on; by the time you've got the mail, the link is no longer valid.

I got one this morning, for example (to an alleged video file) took a peek - nuffin. As you say, no error message or anything, just total non-performance.

I then noticed the URL contained the numbers 0623, or something like that, possibly indicating 'June 23rd'. I substituted 0630 and found an "updated" file. Last week's material had just been binned and superseded.

Some links are just misdirected or misprinted. Some respond in a different way in different browsers.

And there is a residual percentage which just don't seem to exist in the first place. I have even found a few (usually - allegedly - at the more extreme end of porn) which reference domains that aren't even registered.

I can only conclude this is an attempt to (a) verify the active nature of addresses, and possibly harvest more (and in the case of porn possibly directed at incrimination) or (b) the email is "pure" spam, ie not intended to sell or promote anything real at all, but just to clog the network and irritate the recipient. I believe a proportion of spams are purely for that purpose.

157088 2003-07-03 01:34:00 The sites are Trademe etc. Yesterday I had a question asked of an auction I had with a reply link and I am unable to go to that link now. This has never been a problem before but it has recently just developed and I dont want to do a new install. Reguards Ron norrol (2154)
