157193 2003-07-03 08:45:00 Is it possible to install Linux Mandrake 8.0 on a system that already has Windows XP Home installed?
I tried it once and the whole system came crashing down and refused to boot into anything but Linux. A local repair man offered the helpfull advice that XP will not allow to have another OS installed over it.

157194 2003-07-03 09:15:00 It is possible to have a dual boot system with Windows XP and Linux. Linux still has some problems with the NTFS file system and Mandrake 8.0 will definitely have problems. If you won't to go for a dual boot some others on the forum have suggested using a program like Partition Magic to resize the existing Windows partition.

Another option is to remove the current Windows install and use fdisk to create a partition for each operating system. Then reinstall the Windows XP on the first partition and the Mandrake on the second partition.

Prior to using any partitioning software programs it is strongly recommended that you do a defrag. This helps to insure that you don't wipe out any important data that might be in the area Partition Magic is altering.

HTH :)
