157419 2003-07-04 08:49:00 a friend of mine installed Battlefield 1942 and then for some reason had to uninstall it (I dont' think it was working properly). He used the Add/Remove Software feature in the windows control panel to remove it. The problem is now when he tries to reinstall the game it looks like it is installing ok. When you start the game it plays the video sequence ok (a bit laggy but still ok), but then when it gets to the main menu the text is displayed as a box instead of each letter. Does anyone know what might have caused this? Would a clean uninstall help fix it? If so how do I do one to make sure I get rid of all the existing game before I reload it.

Help - it was a present for his son's birthday, and he hasn't been able to play it yet.

157422 2003-07-04 09:28:00 i don't think so. its been ages since i saw the minium specs for the game but i have run the demo on my 1.4 t'bird GF3 512meg ram PC and it runs okish.

i suspect the S3 graphics is actually onboard graphics which means its upgrade pc time.

157423 2003-07-04 09:30:00 thanks so much for your help. I'll pass this on to him. His son might have to come and play it at my place......I had to load the game just to make sure it worked ok of course!! jend (3245)
157424 2003-07-04 11:13:00 Sometimes the game has trouble uninstalling the exe file and a few other files and folders. This could be the problem you cant kill them unless you use msdos (out-of-windows) or reboot the system with the bf folder in the recycle bin. hamstar (4)
157425 2003-07-04 11:58:00 Min Specs (read off box):

O.S: XP/ ME/2000/98
CPU: 500Mhz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon Processor
RAM: 128MB
Video:32MB supported Direct3D & Hardware transform & lighting capable video card with DirectX 8.1 compatible driver

:-(Unfortunately it looks like tweak'e was right :-( - a friend of ours did the same recently i.e went & brought games that were not compatible with their system :-(

157426 2003-07-04 12:00:00 If you're reinstalling, sometimes it pays to install into a different directory (folder) to get a clean install. PoWa (203)
