Seems a bit over the top 7 years Roofus, don't you think,my last accountant must have done it in 6 months.;)

157532 2003-07-05 07:40:00 Yea theres a difference between a 6month accounting course and 4yrs + 3yrs practical. A 6month course teachs you book keeping, which is the basics that you would/could do at high school.

accounting takes 7 years because it's not just adding up numbers but also business advisory, tax advisory, IT, audit's etc, on and on it goes. Basically a "qualified accountant" is someone you would go see with any business questions you have, so as you can see its rather broad and hence the required length of time. My interest areas in accounting are business advisory and IT (a duh!). (see you can even come see us about getting good computer systems in place)

157536 2003-07-05 09:02:00 I did Roofus' job for 14 years. Finally decided on a change and a client offered me a job, so now I am accountant/manager for a private company. I was into the number crunching/tax side and got involved with IT when we put in a new system. It grew from the accounting system to management of the network. I also assisted clients with software selection, installation, training and trouble shooting.

My home PC is a P3 500 of about 4 years. I have played with it a little, but is still essentially the same as when I got it. Thinking about building a new one .........

157537 2003-07-05 09:12:00 nah not about english. got it checked over and etc... different styles online and in application u see..

well, not one interview. well if i had poor english i would not be admitted into higher education or would i ? :)

employment agencies seems more interested in interviewing me then they did not have any jobs in my field. so that was also a pass.

why is it that so many grads do the brain drain here? is it more pay abroad or is it too little vacancies here or what is it?
