157490 2003-07-10 12:20:00 Thanks for all you advice... PoWa what do you mean by having separate partition for Windows Swap file. What are swap files??? Annanz (3044)
157491 2003-07-10 16:23:00 Hi, damn its late - oh well I can't get to sleep.

Have a read of these pages:

Set your swap file (pcworld.co.nz)

Speed up with partitions (pcworld.co.nz)

Keep a stable swap file (pcworld.co.nz)

Hopefully after reading those pages you'll be much more educated on the swap file, and will have a faster computer :)

157492 2003-07-10 23:58:00 if you are going to do a partition for the swap file then it really should go like this-

1) 500Mb-1Gb partition for windows swap file. z
2) 5gig-10gig Partition for Windows and critical programs. c
3) XXGb partition for programs etc. d
4)XXGb partition for random stuff e
5) XXGb if needed depending on drive size.

157493 2003-07-11 01:08:00 Are you saying that the swap file should be at the very very beginning of the drive? And not the OS? PoWa (203)
157494 2003-07-11 01:50:00 exactly :)

put the swapfile on the fastest part possible. the pc will run much quicker than having the swapfile 5-10Gb's down the disk.
