158003 2003-07-07 03:29:00 Whenever I first boot into Windows XP the taskbar will not respond to any interaction for about 1 minute. That is, it does not respond to mouse events, windows shortcut keys or the windows button.

I still have full access to my desktop. After about a minute it fires up as per normal, and any applications I have since started from the desktop appear in my taskbar.

I have cut my starting system down to the bare bones through MSConfig, but to no avail.

Anybody got any ideas? It appears that Explorer is waiting for some event, but eventually times out and gives control over to me.

158004 2003-07-07 04:00:00 Try this

Turn off Active Desktop within Explorer. You don't get the fancy wallpaper or the quicklaunch icons next to the start button. If you can live without them, you can save 32-64 MB of RAM and hence less swapping to disk.

Download a tool to help from www.xteq.com and install

Then
Appearance -> Explorer -> Settings (Advanced) -> Classic Explorer.

This will make it fly again.
