| 157908 | 2003-07-06 11:00:00 | Hi I have a Packard Bell, Force 120 computer. It is a 120 mhz system that was running Win 95. I decided to load Win 98 instead. I formatted C drive and then rebooted using the Win 98 boot disk. The message on the screen is 'OS load in progress' and then the floppy drive light comes on, goes off after about 10 seconds and then nothing at all. Any ideas on what might be wrong please. Thanks Kredo n.b. I cannot reload 95 as I do not have the software. |

| 157909 | 2003-07-06 11:47:00 | correct me if im wrong but 98bootdisk is to let you boot to windows if you havn't installed windows it wont boot set your PC to boot from CD-Rom and put the 98 CD in this should load it otherwise install DOS and run the CD ... DAMit i have to keep hitting my PC every 5-10 minits because of the dam PSU fan |

| 157910 | 2003-07-06 13:48:00 | Could be a faulty disk. Make another Boot disk on another 98 machine. Select "With CDRom support" when the options come up. When it's finished loading you will be at the A: prompt Insert your 98CD Type E: (if E is your CDRom, depends how many partitions you have) & hit enter. Type setup at the E prompt. Could also be a faulty Floppy drive. Or like sc0ut says boot from the CD. If setup fails then you haven't formatted properly & you will have to format it again. |

| 157912 | 2003-07-07 01:35:00 | Kredo, could you fill in a querie for me? 1/ When you boot with the bootdisk, does it come up with a menu, with CDrom Support etc.. If you are just left with the a:\ prompt, then it is not a BootDIsk, but a bootable disk. A correct bootdisk can be downloaded from www.bootdisk.com After booting with this and choosing the CDrom support menu option, just type in ?:\setup (where ? is your CD rom drive letter. It will tell you if you keep an eye on the screen after picking the menu option.) Hope this helps. |

| 157913 | 2003-07-07 01:37:00 | Win 98 on 120Mhz will have no legs. We have Win2K and Office 2K on 200 Mhz. All you need to ensure is that you have 128MB or more of RAM and a 4GB HDD and a permanent Swapfile. I may take a little while to load (1-2 minutes), but once running, all is fine. The biggest problem with the old PCs is RAM can be expensive. $200-$300 for 128MB of EDO ram. |

| 157916 | 2003-07-07 01:54:00 | Win 98 speed can be improved on. Turn off Active Desktop within Explorer. You don't get the fancy wallpaper or the quicklaunch icons next to the start button. If you can live without them, you can save 32-64 MB of RAM and hence less swapping to disk. Download a tool to help from www.xteq.com and install Then Appearance -> Explorer -> Settings (Advanced) -> Classic Explorer. This will make it fly again. |
