157873 2003-07-06 10:20:00 I have recently bought and installed Microsoft Office XP and have decided that I don't want it.
Is it possible to uninstall it and give it to a friend to have for her computer?

157874 2003-07-06 10:27:00 If it is a full version and you have not activated it there is no problem but if you have activated it they will have to prove they are the legal owners to reactivate it. mikebartnz (21)

157876 2003-07-06 10:57:00 Read the EULA.

"Software Product Transfer.

You may permanently transfer all of Your rights under this EULA only as part of a sale or transfer of the HARDWARE, provided You retain no copies, You transfer all of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (including all component parts, the media and printed materials, any upgrades, this EULA and, if applicable, the Certificate(s) of Authenticity and Confirmation Number(s)), and the recipient agrees to the terms of this EULA. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is an upgrade, any transfer must include all prior versions of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT."

Of course none of the above applies to OEM or Academic versions. Not transferrable at all I believe.

157877 2003-07-06 10:59:00 Actually, the above applies to OEM (hence "the hardware")

Haven't got the EULA handy for a full version, but providing its a full version, yes its possible. May need a phone call to explain if activation is refused, yet you might be surprised?

157878 2003-07-06 11:13:00 Is it legal to do this and give it to a friend? I dont want to get in trouble. starfish (3019)
157879 2003-07-06 11:23:00 If its not an academic version
If its not an upgrade version (and you are not also handing on the upgradeable versions as well)
If its not an OEM version

Then its legal.

That means its also cost you more than $600, as a guide.....

What version is it?

157882 2003-07-06 11:55:00 Thats classed as an academic version I think .

Its certainly not a full version .

Its the cheapest version of any so its bound to have some restrictions . Read its EULA, it may allow it provided the new owner meets the restrictions on use, but don't hold your breath!
