| 157822 | 2003-07-06 07:33:00 | Hi all, I am starting to set up a pc based entertainment system - I want a dedicated pc to play dvds, cds and mp3s, and want to also investigate using it as a video recorder. I have the following hardware: Via EPIA mini-ITX M10000 mobo, 256 Mb ddr ram and a 120 gig hdd and 16 speed dvd player, using the TV as a monitor. I am seriously thinking about a Linux based system, although I have never used Linux B4 and I am a little hesitant. Software wise, I will need some sort of jukebox, dvd playback, and cd player. Can anyone tell me what's available and where I start looking? I will also need some sort of video capture/editing/compression software, which I fear may be prohibitively expensive. I want a video capture card that can capture at sufficient resolution to playback at full tv screen resolution. The mobo has 1 pci slot, but an external usb or firewire unit may be an option. I am interested in anyones opinion on any of this. All input is appreciated! |
