157758 2003-07-06 00:24:00 I have a linux system that I want to network with a windows 98se system. I have had a go but have failed miserably :(
Here are my system specs if they are of any help:

Linux System = Knoppix 3.1
Runs a duel boot with win98se (win being my defualt)
256ram, 2100+ athlon, 10G HDD
Real Tek 8139 intergrated network
Gigabyte GA-7VKML Motherboard

Any help would be great

157759 2003-07-06 00:43:00 You don't mention what sort of networking you are hoping to employ. File Sharing or access???

The easiest way to network Linux with Windows for file sharing is by using Samba. I am not sure whether Knoppix has Samba on it and a quick check of their site suggests that it doesn't. Further details about Samba can be found here (au1.samba.org)

Samba is primarily used for file sharing and uses the linux machine as a file server for the Windows network. This kinda of means that you need to think of making the linux a permanent install :O

Dont forget to to type (as su):
service smb restart
Although, In Knoppix I think its smbd for 'samba daemon' :-)
