| 158155 | 2003-07-08 02:06:00 | Hi there. I have a single 80gig hard drive with ME on c: and XP Pro on d: XP boots fine but ME hangs at the startup screen and I can hear a window open (you know it sounds like an error message...Donk!!) with perhaps an error message but the ME logo screen is hiding it! ME and XP have been working fine together untill now. Well this has happened before when I first installed these operating systems and it had something to do with the video adapter drivers. I installed on a clean drive first ME and then loaded all drivers for my hardware but for some reason ME didn't like the latest version of the nVidia video drivers (it would stall on startup, same prob I've got now, even being the only OS on the machine) so I just installed the ones that came with the video card and everything worked fine. The reason I wanted to have a dualboot system was to get the best performance from BF1942 playing under ME. Well the graphics were always choppy in the game under ME so I just played under XP and kept ME around for trying out demo's. Well yeterday I was playing BF1942 in XP and the sound was terrible so I booted to ME and the sound was great but the video was choppy so I decicded to reinstall the video drivers for ME off the driver disk that came with the video card and thats when everything went to the dogs. I didn't even get to install them as ME had a problem locating the drivers and stalled on me. So I rebooted and well... here I am...stuck. I have tried starting in safe mode and I get the same problem. If anyone has ever had this problem or even has heard of it or perhaps can send me a link to something similar I would be eternally gratefull! My system specs are: AMD 2400+ Asus A7N8X DLX ACPI BIOS Rev 1004 Creative Inspire 6.1 6600 speaker Leadtek NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X 128MB Driver Version : 6.14.01.4345, Leadtek TV2000 XP Deluxe TV Tuner 512MB PC2700 80GB HDD Western Digital Asus5224A 52x24x52x CD/RW 1.35 Aopen DVD-ROM 1648/BKH OS: XP Pro and ME |

| 158156 | 2003-07-08 02:34:00 | What a pickle. I would disable AGP 8x in the BIOS. Either fit another AGP card or a PCI video card & reboot, don't worry about installing any drivers for it, install it as a standard vga. Boot ME to safe mode then remove the Leadtek NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti from System Properties. Uninstall the Leadtek Drivers from add/remove programs & reboot. If ME restarts in normal mode download the latest drivers for the Leadtek. Go to system properties again & remove the video card. Shutdown, remove the substitute card, reboot & enable the AGP 8x in the BIOS again, when ME roboots install the Leadtek with the new drivers. Install Directx 9a if not already done. That's what I'd try, any other ideas? |

| 158157 | 2003-07-08 04:51:00 | you have a nice system there, i'd forget ME altogether and stick with XP Pro, BF will run great with your specs, and the whole operating system is far superior to ME. mabye try a reinsall+latest drivers of XP and see if it fixes your problems? |

| 158158 | 2003-07-08 07:41:00 | Thanks for your replies , very much appreciated but I have managed to get ME running again by using A boot disk and running "scanreg /restore" which restores a working registry (I think) anyway all is working again although BF1942 still runs like crap under ME. It does run better though with the leadtek display drivers rather than the latest nVidia drivers...strange! Any comments on this? |
