158121 2003-07-07 23:09:00 Hi
Kredo again
I have a 1ghz AMD system, 384 mb ram with a dvd drive and a cdwriter drive. I am attempting to copy cd's from the dvd drive and I get the following message:

Filename: IOS (01) + 000186E Error: 0E : 0028 : C003C17E
An exception has occured at 0028 : 0000000B in VxD _ _ _ .
This was called from 0028 C023F58B in VxD VMM(0C) + 0000058B
What does this all mean?

When I use the CD writer by itself to back up from the HD, it works and also the DVD works by itself. The problem occurs in either 'on the fly' or sending data to the HD and then to the cd writer.

Any ideas!!!
Thanks
Kredo

158123 2003-07-07 23:45:00 I am assuming you have the latest driver software for your CD-Writer.

If so, try copying at a slower speed.

Note, I have encountered some CDs that will resist copying and hang the system/program in Win2K. You may have one of these CDs.

158124 2003-07-07 23:50:00 And i bet you are using Nero 5.0.4.9 ? Had this problem last week with a friends and after clean out, Nortons WinDoctor,jv16,fix-it and sfc , still the same. Re-installed as well several times, cleaning out after each.
Tried uninstall and installed Easy CD creator, that had come with my LG rewriter, and it ran sweet with no problems on his Acer.
Trawled the Ahead site for fixes, but nothing. Did try their recommendations which you can try also. Make sure that under the hardware, that DMA is turned off for the CDRW drive.
If anyone can shed some light on why Nero does this...pray do tell.

158125 2003-07-08 13:29:00 I did a system restore to an earlier date, i.e. June 1st. I then retried copying and it all went well.
The problem seems to have started after I upgraded to Windows Media player ver 9.
I will dump that version and see if the problem goes away!!
Thanks

How about trying the latest version?!

158127 2003-07-09 00:36:00 Yeah Chill, just unable to figure out what his was. Looked at Ahead and his retail Nero CD label or book didn't coincide with any on site, like was it express or another?
I'm not familiar with Nero, so will return to their site and download the 5.5 version and see.

158129 2003-07-11 03:30:00 Direct transfers from Cd to Cd and presumeably from DVD to Cd on the fly often have problems . Try transfering to a holding file on your Hard drive and then to the CD. abjp (278)
