158394 2003-07-09 02:59:00 Does anyone know how to get old 8mm film clips into MPEG or AVI format – or even steam VHS? What, who and where can it be done – without a LOR budget?! stuffed (1469)
158395 2003-07-09 03:31:00 We had some 8mm movies transcribed to VHS some years back by a Christchurch company, Shipleys Audiovisual Ltd.

Cant remember the cost, it works OK though. Have since transcribed them to VCD format myself (VCR to Video Capture card)

Its a bit hard to convert them yourself from 8 mm unless you screen them and video them with a video camera.

then if your graphics card has the correct inputs so you can plug in your vcr download the demo of drdivx from
http://www.divx.com
it has a 30 day trial period
and the program is very easy to use
just start dr divx and select digital dv
and it will encode your movie into an avi file
you can also use this program to capture tv programs off a tv card and convert to avi
it costs 50 dollars us to buy but its worth it and very easy to use
and you can rip your own dvd's and this is legal in nz as according to nz law we are allowed to make 1 copy of our own software and movies for backup purposes
