158331 2003-07-10 01:10:00 Ok Ill explain in a little more detail ;)

Ok, your looking in the file types tab. There should be a long list of file extensions. The first ones will say (none) but if you scroll down the list you will find the 3 letter extensions like DOC, AVI, TXT etc.

-> Scroll down till you find the IFO file extension.
-> Click on it, then click 'change'. That should bring up a list of programs you could use to open the file with. Find power dvd and click OK and Apply, and your done.
-> If PowerDvd isn't in the list, then click 'browse' and navigate to where you installed PowerDvd (C:\Program Files\ etc).
-> Select the main .exe file, then click ok, ok, apply, close. :)

Repeat those steps for the VOB file extension. And test by putting a dvd in the drive. You may need to reboot, not sure :)

158332 2003-07-10 01:49:00 Cheers for all the hard work PoWa.
I know I am making this hard work!
There are No files in this list with IFO or VOB.
Power DVD is in this list with file extension "PSZ"
I wish I was in IT.
THANKS again for the persistence.

158333 2003-07-10 02:16:00 In folder options again, click the View Tab along the top, scroll down and make sure you have unchecked "Hide file extensions for known file types".

Now explore the dvd in windows explorer, go into the Video_TS folder I think its called.

Right click on one of the .vob files and go 'open with' or open. It should ask you what program you want to open it with. Choose PowerDvd.

Do the same for one of the .ifo files.

158334 2003-07-10 02:27:00 Oh, and make sure you tick the "always use the selected program when opening this type of file" PoWa (203)
158335 2003-07-10 04:55:00 Hi PoWa. Have done all as you said.
Found Video_TS files etc and did as you said.
But every time I insert disc "A" for interactual player comes up in front of
D :\ D drive.
Where I looked up Video TS file also appears "A" for interactual player.
Have been to add & remove programes and deleted original interactual player. I have also re loaded in and used their uninstall comand.
Then I have used reg clean and add aware.
But still this little bugger hangs on!
If I was religous man I would start praying!!!
Help!!!

If it worked for you, then it shouldn't have :) The first thing Windows looks for when a disk is inserted is the AUTORUN.INF and related files. If they aren't found Windows then tries to identify what is on the disk that the user might want to be running, so the second choice for Windows should then be the VOB and IFO. But if the autorun is there, and autorun tells Windows to run the Interactual program, then that's what it'll do. If it didn't for you, then possibly interactual was launched via a different method on the DVD you were using (or perhaps that's what it's like on all DVDs). I'll have a look at some later to see if I can figure it out :)

Mike.

158337 2003-07-10 09:37:00 I don't think video dvds have autorun.inf files. Not the video dvds anyway. The dvd video ones use the .ifo file to load the movie, which was what I was trying to get at.

However it is possible he has some evil dvd that has autorun.inf that likes to install that bad player ;) Tell us what the dvd is, and see if it has dvd-rom specific functions on it??? I'm wondering, who actually made interactual player, not microsoft surely?

I'm out of ideas really. :| Your last resort is to disable autorun on the dvd drive. What version of windows are you running?? I know in XP, you can go into My computer, right click on the dvd drive and go autoplay tab. Select video files from the pulldown menu, and change to powerdvd etc.

I just inserted my Star Wars Ep 2 DVD and guess what popped up almost straight away . . . yup, Interactual player . Opened explorer and browsed to the dvd . Here are the contents of the root of the DVD:

autorun . inf
disc . id
install . exe
readme . txt

Opened the autorun . inf and it says this:

[autorun]
open=install . EXE id= ver=1 . 0 . 0 . 0
icon=win\setup\iPlayer . ico

That was on the movie disk, not on the extras disk . The same thing for 2 or 3 more DVDs (out of the 14 I tried) . The disks that Interactual started on were the only DVDs that had PC specific content on them . These all started via autorun . inf .

So I guess that DVDs with PC content/Interactual player on them will start interactual automatically from autorun . inf .

Interactual player is made by interactual technologies inc . I don't think it's Microsoft (fairly sure of that in fact) :)

158339 2003-07-10 10:15:00 Right, thanks for that Mike :)

What happens if you just insert a normal dvd?

158340 2003-07-10 20:51:00 Hi PoWa & Mike.
Thanks for your help.
The DVD I am playing, Don't laugh, Shrek.
It is an original comercial copy.
As soon as it is in the drive it comes up with interactual player.
I will have to try another movie.
The root file is as Mike says and comes up with the same content.
I was actually tring back up software!
I find the interactual display of this movie, to be horrible.
But once again I think it has been some submersive software by the moviemanufacturers.
Always keen if some one has a means to deal with it.
I am also using a Toshiba satelite pro lap top.
I dave got acopy of DVD copy xpress.
It does not seem to work with this DVD is there other issues?
Once again thanks for you input.
