| 158461 | 2003-07-09 10:17:00 | Advice about video cards please: I am wanting to buy a video card to upgrade a Compaq Deskpro 1GHz P3 for improved graphics on the standard on-board fare. Any suggestions about type which will match a 1GHz processor? Clearly the latest and greatest will be more speedy than the processor can use. All advice greatfully received - thanks! |

| 158462 | 2003-07-09 10:28:00 | I'd recomed the Geforce 4 Ti 4200, if ur planning to capture video or output it to a Tv then buy the ViVo editon (Video in Video out). It should cost around $350 (includin GST). cheers, v.K |

I actually bought my Ti 4400 when I still had my P3 1GHz last year, even though it wasn't a great match for that hardware, because I intended to do a CPU upgrade later. Now that I've built a P4 2.6GHz my Ti 4400 fits in nicely. If that's not the case, and you're not so serious about games that an extra $300 expense makes sense, then the MX cards are a good buy. I'm running a 64MB MX GF4 in my work PC, which is a 2GHz P4, and it handles most games without problems, including things like BF1942. |

| 158466 | 2003-07-10 00:02:00 | I use a GeForce 4 Ti-4200 and at least get DirectX 8 hardware support . I heard the Geforce 4 MX is nothing more that an upgraded Geforce 2 . 3DMark scores on a 1Ghz system: GF4 Ti4200=7640 GF4 MX440=4576 GF2 Ultra=4068 Checkout . tomshardware . com/graphic/20030120/index . html" target="_blank">www6 . tomshardware . com for a detailed review of most common cards . This page . tomshardware . com/graphic/20030120/vgacharts-02 . html" target="_blank">www6 . tomshardware . com Will show that a good card will perform really well on 1Ghz sytem and scores about 90% of what a 2 . 7Ghz machine would score . If you want good graphic performance a good card is better than a good cpu . |
