158916 2003-07-11 13:25:00 I have found that the "temp" folders in c:\documents and settings\username\local settings fill up with a lot of rubbish. This can add up to hundreds of megabytes of files if you have many different users using the same PC, as in a school.

Is there any easy way to delete all files in all users' temp folders on a regular basis?

158918 2003-07-11 22:00:00 As far I can tell, "disk cleanup" has no effect on any of the users temp folders. tombarnfield (2475)

158920 2003-07-11 23:40:00 Temp internet files can be deleted automatically by Going to Tools, Internet options, Advanced scroll down the list till you come to the box with empty temporary internet files whem browser is closed put a tick in the box. KK kirrie kiwi (279)
158921 2003-07-11 23:47:00 Your right there KK. Although remember there is more temporary files than Internet Temporary files.

To remove files from say the temp location may present a complexity as the files may be in use and therefore report they cannot be deleted.

Even if you have no applications open the system may have its own processes on startup or similar that generate temporary files.

I have a few suggested solutions:

1 Navigate to the folder and delete which ones you can with testing. I usually group up say half and see if i can delete those and if i cant half it and try again. This is the way which requires no extra software and is good with practise as you dont have to rely on the possibility of adware or whatever the case may be
2 On startup or from outside of normal startup e.g. safemode you may want to try deleting the remaining files. I have read articles before of people making *.bat files which automatically delete contents of directories or directories which is another option
3 3rd Party software, although remember the files may still be open. Some may overcome this by performing troublesome file deletion on restart, others may not
4 Other solutions. I have not listed everything as indeed I do not know everything. But hopefully these solutions may help, although allow beyond the scope of this message.

158922 2003-07-12 00:09:00 I have been using EASYCLEAN for the past 12 months and find it a wonderful tool for cleaning the registry, temp files, duplicate files. Obtainable free from www.saunalahti.fi ...........heaton heaton (3697)
158923 2003-07-12 23:31:00 I appreciate all the ideas put forward so far, but I don't think any of the software suggested is able to delete the entire contents of the local settings\temp folder of 50-100 users in the \documents and settings folders on C drive.

Temporary internet files are not a problem as I have set internet explorer to store minimum history and cache for all users.

Perhaps an alternative would be to set the default \temp folder for all users to be, say, c:\temp, then there would be only one place to clean files from - does anyone know if this is possible

158924 2003-07-12 23:59:00 I remember someone here posting a solution.
Click Start > Run. Type %temp% and then click OK.
Not sure what these are there but I do delete those with no problems to any programs. I wonder if they delete files under my logon or is it all of them. Might have to check when I get home.

158925 2003-07-13 02:38:00 The "run %temp%" command only lists files in the current users \temp folder. tombarnfield (2475)
