158967 2003-07-13 06:23:00 Thanks Billy, now I feel free to take over completely!:D

Hi Woody. I did wonder if the coating might have been some sort of graphite compound. I fixed a problem with the number 8 button of a good quality calculator once. I found a hairline crack in the printed circuit path near the 8 button and fixed it by shaving a black soft pencil lead, spreading the shavings fairly thickly across the hairline crack and holding it there with one of the better types of cellotape. (I may have used some glue over the tape too, can't remember now.) That was seven years ago and the calculator is still in use today. In that case though, no moving parts were involved in the repair.

You have supplied some food for further thought, thanks for that. With moving parts, a lot of care will need to be taken as you suggested.

Mine is only home handyman type of repair though, unlike Billy who needs complete reliability for business purposes.

Cheers. :)

158968 2003-07-13 08:54:00 Do you have a fax machine Billy? It might just have the functionality you need, just guessing though. -=JM=- (16)
158969 2003-07-13 09:19:00 Thanks exll,
The graphite solution is excellent- I've "repaired" a number of TV remotes this way. Be careful to smear the graphite powder only on the contact areas of the Rubber flexi pad using a tiny screwdriver or similar, then blow away the surplus. Works very well.
Do all the pads at once - saves a recall!

158970 2003-07-13 09:28:00 Cannot see how a fax machine could give 2 line with conference ability, they are not a 2 line device usually and not overly smart in terms of phone features.
I gave up a year or so back trying to get a 2-line phone. The Uniden 2 line cordless is very poor quality I found (I used one for a year), and I scored a 2 line Telecom phone but it had a fault in it and will not dial any number. Perhaps thats why they stopped using them?. Internal quality is very poor.

As my needs to conference are met with the Telecom service I settled for 2 discreet phones.

158971 2003-07-14 04:06:00 Hi Godfather

I agree with your comments on the Uniden, and am now preparing to direct import a Panasonic 2 line phone since there is nothing available locally. The phones are easy to source, but the biggest problem is locating a seller who will ship outside the US and use Airmail not couriers.

I did find one, but forgot to bookmark (or even write down the name! Doh X-() so the search resumes.

Sadly it did not appear in my history file either but I'll find it again, eventually. All I remember is that the interface had a lot of brown tones in it and that is not a lot to go on.:(

Cheers

158972 2003-07-14 11:29:00 Hi Billy, have you been to the following?

Comparison - Shop for Corded Phones - Macworld - Price Comparison:
(It is a price comparison search engine for all sorts of things.)

here 1. (macworld.pricegrabber.com)
I clicked on the third item down (Panasonic phone mod KX-TSC14W) and got to this address:

here 2. (macworld.pricegrabber.com)

That gave all the firms that sell that product, but more importantly there was a place to click to "show only those merchants that ship internationally", so I clicked that sentence.

That narrowed it down to this one merchant on this address:
here 3. (macworld.pricegrabber.com)

It gave details for the phone I had searched for and had a picture and a place to click on to "read more". The "read more" bit was ok, but it omitted to say that it had 3 way conferencing, whereas when I clicked on the little green oval icon on the right hand side of the page that had the word "shop" enclosed, it took me to the following page which gave full details including 3 way conferencing.
here 4. (www.efendos.com)

At first you may think that it is only within USA, but if you look at the fine print almost at the foot of the page it says, Efendos.com ships to almost any destination worldwide.

I have given all those links so that you can do a more thorough search for other models if you wish. I just randomly searched for the first, corded, 2 line, 3-way conferencing Panasonic phone that I saw as I didn't know exactly what you were after.

If you already know that comparison search site, to save time, just click on my last link, no 4, which will take you the end result on my search.

Cheers. :)

158973 2003-07-15 00:07:00 Wow :O

Thanks exLL, perhaps I should put you on a retainer.:8}

I'll dig into that site and see if they have my preferred phone. They probably do as all others had it.

Cheers

158974 2003-07-15 04:19:00 Hi Billy,I asked around and the only 2 liner I could find was the Panasonis(unsure of the model)but for around $400.A bit steep I think. The only other one mentioned was a Polaris.Don't know anything about them, and the distributer hasn't got any in stock at the moment, and is unsure when he will. The only good thing was the price, around $120+gst apparently.Doesn't help much though, does it.

158975 2003-07-15 05:00:00 Hi Peter

So far I can get a KX-TS208W for $US49 but DHL to NZ is another $US50 plus customs charges & GST. Total would be around $NZ200 which is not a bad deal I suppose.

I am presently negotiating with two sites to use US mail which will lower the cost to about $NZ130.

BTW exLL, I found that some of those "Will ship internationally" sites only do a limited range of US territorial associates and one is listed simply because the bot saw "ship internationally" on the Home page but presumably missed the "We don't" in front of it!

If only they were available in NZ at reasonable prices :( Did I mention I found a South Island site that sells a US 2 line phone for megabucks?

Cheers
