158957 2003-07-12 12:43:00 Billy , as far as I know, the telephone volts/ringing are standard. It is just the exchange tones that differ (and mechanical dials). So should be OK apart from any plug packs that it may come with.
Have you tried a strip and clean of keypad using isopropyl Alcohol?

exLL , try calling an Auckland firm called TradeTech. They have conductive pad re-coating for remote controls. At least they had about 6 months ago.
Mmmm memory fading, wonder if that was Tesa ? Can check if you want.

158958 2003-07-12 13:00:00 Try Amazon, here (www.amazon.com) you should be able to do a lot better than $100 for a multiline phone which will do what you want. Jim B (153)

Firstly, apologies to Billy for 'sort of' hi-jacking his thread with this bit.

Thanks Pheonix, (I got your wrong spelling right too! I know you spell it like that on purpose. :D ), I didn't expect an answer to the recoating, very interesting, I will keep that in mind for future reference now that I know that it is possible.

Don't bother checking it out though, as I am only a tinkerer and the phone doesn't warrant spending anything on it anyway.

Thanks a lot for the kind offer, it was appreciated.

Cheers. :)

158960 2003-07-12 23:43:00 Hey, no worries exLL. I mean, what's a thread for if not gathering helpful information on loosely related topics? :D

Incidentally, I think a new phone would be desirable now because reconditioning the keypad will only give a limited extension of life and cosmetically it is looking sad with the outer plastic coating on the handset worn away to show the darker coloured base material.

Cheers

[b][pre]Ummmm, Yes, Mrs T does think I spend
too much time on the phone and she reckons
that's why it is wearing out. :8}

158961 2003-07-13 00:24:00 I presume you have talked to Telecom or one of the specialised telephone retailers?

Perhaps you could search on Google

158962 2003-07-13 00:48:00 Hi Baldy

I have searched extensively in NZ and found but one phone (for $NZ250) that I can buy much cheaper from the US.

Amazon has a wide range but according to their product details only ships them in the US ?:| so that was a dead end.

Other US retailers will ship internationally by US mail (very often the cheapest by far and only marginally slower than UPS or Fedex).

Telecom and/or its agents obviously don't believe that SOHO businesses need "advanced" communication options.

Cheers

[b][pre]Like, two lines, conferencing and
a speakerphone are advanced??

158963 2003-07-13 02:12:00 Have a look here. Not sure if its what you are after, but they are available from Telecom

158964 2003-07-13 02:33:00 Nah! Thanks all the same Baldy, but once again they come up short in the two line + conferencing department.

You either use two phones, & pay for Centrex or you buy a PABX.

Telecom talks big about SOHO services but only delivers to those who can afford big bucks. I used to have Centrex (provided as part of a business contract) before I got this phone but dropped it when I had to pay for it myself.

Looks like I'll be ordering from the States. Pity I didn't think to buy one while I was over there.

Cheers

158965 2003-07-13 04:41:00 Is the keypad of the type which consists of a flexi pad with indentations for buttons and makes contact with printed circuit type connections.
If so, try a good clean of the connector board with isopropyl alcohol, then doctor the flexi pad connector areas (carefully) with very fine graphite (from a locksmith). The actual conductor which makes the contact is the button indentation on the flexible membrane so the graphite can rejuvenate this if you're lucky.
Good luck

158966 2003-07-13 06:18:00 Thanks Woody,

I intend giving it a service as an interim measure, but it is a business phone and reliability is paramount. The cosmetics are important too and as I mentioned earlier, it is showing severe signs of wear on the handset so I'd be replacing it for that reason, if no other.

Cheers
