| 158754 | 2003-07-11 00:30:00 | A new icon appeared on my desktop this morning on startup. When I put the mouse pointer over it, it told me that it was in documents and settings and was 200kb size. Now the file is simply this ~ I think it is called a tilde. There is no other information just ~ 200 kb. Has anybody got any ideas. I got the latest AVG update and ran a full system scan so no viruses. OP is XP. Thanks........heaton |

| 158755 | 2003-07-11 00:55:00 | The ~ file is the backup file for your address book. The April patch for Outlook Express Q330994 apparently created this problem. You can remove this update from the Add/Remove Programs and the problem may go. Or you can live with it and wait for the next update, which may get rid of it? Must say it has not affected me, as I avoid Microsoft e-mail products like the plague, as they seem to be the prime target for viruses. This problem has been done to death both on this forum, and globally (try looking in Google and you will see you are not alone!) |
