| 159356 | 2003-07-13 10:09:00 | this question is a carry on of a past question i spose. on your connection icon (2 computer thingys in tray) when mouse hovers over it, comes up speed Kbps ok? but im am confuddled about sent / received in next lines. can someone explain this to me? sent : is this information my computer has sent to pages / cookies etc for access? received : information incoming of course but from what ? if i have not downloaded anything why are these settings / numbers always very high? and received should be higher or lower? numbers wise? this may be a simple thing most people know but humour me, as i have a long way to go and basics are best for me to learn first, as bios stuff has gone to heavey for this little beetle for now. thanxs in advance beetle |

| 159357 | 2003-07-13 10:19:00 | You are correct about "sent", being the instructions your PC has issued regarding what it wants to see (you want to see) on the web. "Received" is the reverse, what has been asked for. While you say you haven't downloaded anything (so why are the numbers high?) in fact you have. You have downloaded every page that you view, which is a lot of data and images. Received will usually always be much higher than sent. All you ak for is an address, with a few hundred bytes or so but you get a few hundred kilobytes of web pages in reply. Even your "home page" (whatever comes up first on your browser) has been "downloaded". |

| 159358 | 2003-07-13 10:35:00 | so these numbers go back to zero every time you shut your computer down? and the only acknowledgement of where you have been is from history and cookies? or spyware . other than that it is a fresh slate each time? even though i surf a bit hadnt really thought of my open pages as a download, but must admit they would have to have got their somehow, just not the hows and why have worried me before . thanxs Godfather, much appreciated your help . beetle |

| 159359 | 2003-07-13 10:43:00 | The numbers disappear when you shut down or close the connection . Amnesia sets in and they start again from zero . The pages are not kept per se, but the cookies, and graphics may be to speed up the experience next time you visit the page . |
