159321 2003-07-13 04:52:00 Hi, have run scanmodem and found what rpm file I need, I have installed this, but when I try dialing out (with KPPP) it still comes up with can't open modem.

Using Red Hat 8

the installer i used was

ltmodem-kv-2.4.18_14-8.26a9-1.i686.rpm

Any ideas what my next step is? Havne't been able to find much on the web. Most things talking about finding the driver, which as far as I am aware I have done.

159322 2003-07-13 06:06:00 Is it a hardware or winmodem? Is it a supported winmodem? Dolby Digital (160)
159323 2003-07-13 07:40:00 If you can't find any instructions on the page you got it from, have a look at what was included in the package.

Have a look in /usr/share/doc for anything that looks related. It should be in a directory called ltmodem or similar.

The following will give you a list of files installed (assuming ltmodem is the name of the package):

rpm -q --list ltmodem

159324 2003-07-13 09:05:00 It is a winmodem.

Lucent with DSP chipset, the ID number is 11C1:044A.

In one of the readme files it says that if it is with the range 11c1:0440-045c then it will be supported. Not clued up enough on hex to know if this is in the range or not.

159325 2003-07-13 12:14:00 Yes, its in the range.

044A (1098 decimal) is greater than 0440 (1088) and less than 045c (1116).

:-( Make sure the readme is up to date before you give up.

159326 2003-07-13 14:27:00 To be honest if you can afford it I wouldn't muck around with a WinModem I would buy an external modem as they are true modems. Some USB modems are not true modems. mikebartnz (21)
